Raising Solar Efficiency

By Brett Bumeter - 25.07.2008

Photovoltaic panels are an excellent way to harness the power of the sun. However, the solar panels we are all used to only absorb the suns energy in the visual spectrum. Ted Sargeant, a pioneer in the solar power field, suggests that with sufficient research and development researchers may be able to utilize nanotechnology to harness the suns U.V. output as well.

Currently, the average panel array will provide approximately one kilowatt of solar energy per day at a cost of $11,000 (initial investment). By utilizing the suns U.V. rays through developmental nanotechnology, the solar energy yield for the consumer would be much greater.
